Risks Of Smoking During Pregnancy

Everybody knows the dangers of smoking – and if you’re pregnant, not only are you hurting yourself but you’re hurting your unborn child as well.

Many of my female stop smoking hypnosis clients recall quitting smoking with ease the moment they found out they were pregnant – yet they’re baffled as to why they can’t just quit now.

I think it has something to do with a belief that says ‘another’s life is important but my own isn’t as important.’ They wouldn’t dream of hurting another living being, but they’re fine with hurting themselves.

It’s All In Your Head

It’s true! This is a subconscious mechanism which means that even though you might consciously want to quit smoking, on a deeper subconscious level there are beliefs that are stopping you from succeeding.

All of these things can be addressed using hypnosis. In the meantime if you are pregnant and looking for some motivation to ditch the cigarettes let me fill you in on the damage you’re doing your unborn child.

Facts About Cigarettes

Cigarettes have over 2,500 nasty chemicals that could have a negative impact on your baby. If that’s not enough, it causes complications with your pregnancy itself. If you smoke while you’re pregnant you have an increased risk of the following:

  • Ectopic pregnancy;
  • Premature labour;
  • Miscarriage

And let’s not forget problems with the placenta, premature rupture of membranes and stillbirth. The more cigarettes you smoke the greater risk. But interestingly enough, cutting down makes no difference in the risk factor. That’s why experts recommend you quit as soon as you know you’re pregnant.(No pressure!)
