What To Do When You Are Rejected

Most people don’t know how to deal with rejection in a positive and constructive way. This leads to a subsequent fear of taking risks and avoidance of life in general.

Fear of rejection is a deeply conditioned response that has been programmed into your DNA. In old times we needed to belong to a group in order to survive, so it was in our best interests to avoid rejection at all costs.

While you don’t need this fear these days, you’re still conditioned to want to belong – all human beings are. So when you get rejected it hurts – a LOT.

Rejection in life is inevitable – so if you’re going to be happy and fulfilled you need to know how to move on from a rejection in a dignified manner that allows you to learn from your experiences without being buried by them.

Accept The Loss

How you can learn and grow after being rejected

The first thing you need to do is accept it. Whether you were rejected for a job application, by a potential partner or refused entry into a club, it all feels the same; unpleasant.

You might be tempted to fight the decision that has been made, but in the long run that will only cause you more pain and suffering.

You may not like what has happened but you can recover from it, as long as you can recognise your painful feelings, acknowledge them and allow them to come and go in their own time without getting attached to the outcome.

Trust In The Flow Of Life

Sometimes things are just not meant to be. One of my clients was devastated when out of the blue her husband of 30 years left her for a younger woman.

She struggled to let the relationship go because she was absolutely sure her husband had made the ‘wrong’ decision. Her self-esteem took a major beating and she became obsessed with her ex-husband’s comings and goings. This was a very painful experience for her.

She came to me in a state of desperation. She knew that she really needed to accept the decision her ex had made in order to move on with her life but she didn’t know how to do that. Together we worked on her subconscious beliefs and mind patterns and with time, she was able to let go of the situation and rebuild her life.

Now, 5 years later she is happily remarried and she says that in hindsight the end of her marriage was indeed the best thing that ever happened to her.

So the moral of the story is; sometimes things don’t work out because there is something even better waiting for you around the corner.Trust that life is unfolding as it should and more often than not you’ll find it is looking after you.

Get Back Out There

Whatever it is you were doing that got you rejected, get back out there and do it again. Whether it was applying for jobs, dating or something else, the law of averages says that the more you try the more likely you are to succeed.

Successful people are not any luckier than you – they just keep going no matter what. They are able to take rejection in their stride, knowing that is it just a normal part of life.
