How To Choose A Reputable Hypnotherapist Using Online Reviews

Hypnotherapists are abundant in the suburb of Melbourne. But who is the best person to help you? Online Reviews such as Google My Business and Yelp can help you decide who to work with.

Making the decision to have hypnotherapy is a very personal choice, and one that should not be made lightly.

Why should you do your research? Well, apart from the fact that it’s common sense, hypnotherapy as a modality is not regulated in Australia.

What that means for you is that among the incredible pool of practising therapists in this country, you could be choosing to work with a practitioner who has had anything from zero to two years formal training.

Yes – You Read That Line Right. I Said ‘Zero Training’.

Accredited hypnotherapist training is the first thing you should look for when selecting a practitioner. If you’re in Melbourne, the only government accredited training available is provided by the Academy of Hypnotic Science in Elsternwick.

So first things first; find the ‘About page’ on the practitioner’s website. Scroll down to their qualifications and see where they did their training.

Personally I wouldn’t see anyone who had undertaken less than one year’s training. The Academy of Hypnotic Science offers two courses at certificate and diploma level. Each course runs for about one year.

What If You Find A Negative Review?

Why people give bad reviews to hypnotherapists

No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater just yet. The fact is you can’t please all of the people all of the time. I have been practising for twelve years and during that time I have occasionally worked with clients who were unhappy with my service.

If this happens I always try to resolve the problem amicably and usually there is a mutually positive outcome. But sometimes people just don’t give you the chance to resolve the problem. There are many reasons why a practitioner might receive a negative review, such as:

  • A misunderstanding of perceived outcomes;
  • A personality clash;
  • Competitors Writing Fake Reviews

….or the practitioner might just be not very good at what they do! Whatever the case, your decision should not be based on one negative review alone.

Other Factors To Consider

A negative review doesn’t necessarily mean you should not consider this hypnotherapist. Dig a little deeper and find the answers to these important questions:

  • How long has she been In business?
  • Are there more positive reviews than negative?

If there are more positive reviews than negative reviews, the therapist is doing something right. Get in contact with her and see how it feels to talk to her. Your first gut instinct is usually on the money.

Online reviews for hypnotherapists in Melbourne are great as a guideline, but nothing works better than your own judgement. If you feel comfortable with the practitioner and she has the right credentials you will likely get good results working with her.
