How To Make Decisions With Confidence

Decision making can be really hard if you don’t have confidence. In fact, indecisiveness is an indirect symptom of low self-esteem.

You may flounder with even the smallest decisions, terrified of making the wrong choice and second-guessing yourself so much that you’re stuck in the one place going nowhere fast.

When you can’t commit to decisions you are essentially saying:

  • I don’t trust myself;
  • I don’t have what it takes to decide what is right for me;
  • I need somebody older/wiser/better to tell me what to do

These messages come from a small part of you that is afraid to take responsibility. Even though logically you know it is you who has to make your own choices, another part of you is terrified to do so.

But you can learn to be confident in making choices with a little help. Here are my favourite tips on how to bite the bullet and get off the fence once and for all.

Ask The Hard Questions

Ways to get clear on making the right decision

Most people would rather stay in a situation they don’t like than face the unknown. Is fear of making the wrong decision keeping YOU stuck in the one place?

The first thing you need to do is get clear on the direct impact the choice you are about to make will have on you and those around you. Ask yourself:

  • Is this decision good for me?
  • Is it good for the people I love?

If your heart says yes to both of these questions then go for it. Most things aren’t set in stone so usually there’s some room to breathe anyway.

Listen To Your Gut

How many times in life have you had a gut feeling that you ignored in spite of yourself, only to discover later on that your intuition was spot on?

When you were younger you were highly tuned into your intuition. But as we grow older often this wisdom gets squashed by logic, fear and other people’s opinions. Your gut is almost always on the money, so if it feels right you should go ahead and do it.

Remember:

  • There is no right or wrong decision; only growth and learning;
  • If your decision turns out to be wrong, it’s not set in stone. You can move on and make a new decision if the need arises;
  • Any decision is better than indecision.

Let Go Of Fear

What keeps you stuck where you are is fear of making the wrong decision. Sure, it’s safer to stick to what you know – but what’s that going to cost you in the long run?

If you continue to live your life based on fear, you will miss out on all the joys and sorrows of this human life and will you be any happier for it? Probably NOT.

Refusing to move out of your comfort zone will, in the end, make you miserable. So be courageous, get off the fence and choose a side. Trust that whatever decision you make will be the right one for you at the time.

How Do You Know If You’re Making a Bad Decision?

The simple answer is: you don’t. Nothing is certain in this life and it’s those who embrace uncertainty who thrive. Generally though, if you have to talk yourself into making this decision or if you find yourself trying too hard to justify it, it’s probably a bad idea.

If you’re having problems with the decision making process it may be that you could use a little help in the confidence department. If this is the case you may like to try my confidence hypnosis MP3 download.
