How to be happy using your mind

The Easiest Way To Get What You Want

See How Easily You Can Get What You Want

The easiest way to get what you want in life is to focus on feeling good now. When I explain this to my clients, many of them look at me as though I have two heads.

They say: ‘But Sonia, I won’t feel good until I lose all this weight I’m carrying’, or: ‘I’ll feel good when I find a partner’.

They believe that they are unhappy because of their current life circumstances and that the only way to change that is if these circumstances change into something that is more pleasing to them.

Yes, I know you’ve heard it all before: ‘happiness is within you’, blah blah blah. It’s not exactly what you want to hear when you’re feeling despondent, but it is true.

I’m not the first person to talk about this. The Buddha said it, Rick Hanson says it, and many other spiritual teachers also say it; whatever you consistently think about becomes the inclination of your mind.

For example: if you continue to feel crappy about the way your body looks you are more likely to stay stuck at your current weight.

On the other hand, if you create an intention in your mind to feel good no matter what, you begin to actively seek ways to feel better and to change your thought processes so that they are in alignment with what you want.

Like Attracts Like

According to Esther Hicks, there are always two subjects; what you want and the absence of it. It’s pretty easy to know what you want, and if we could leave it at that, many of us would get what we wanted way more often.

The problem is most of us focus on the lack of what we want and become more and more discouraged that it hasn’t yet shown up in our lives.

This stifles the manifestation process, and sometimes stops it altogether. You are unlikely to get what you want as long as you continue to focus on hating it’s opposite.

When I work with my clients, I help them to focus on specific aspects of the thing they are desiring and how it will feel to them when they have it.

For example, if you wanted to lose weight, I would ask you these questions:

  1. What size do you want to be?
  2. What will being reaching your ideal weight allow you to do, be or have that you don’t have now?
  3. How will you feel when I reach you ideal weight?

How To Ease Your Way to Better Feeling Thoughts

Let’s say the main reason why you want to lose weight is so that you can feel confident in your own skin. As I’ve said before, when you feel good about yourself you’ve got a much better chance of achieving your weight loss goals.

Still, there’s no getting around the fact that you can’t go from feeling totally depressed about your body, to amazingly confident in one split second.

But you can use your mind to slowly ease yourself towards thoughts that feel better. Here’s an example:

“I have some weight to lose and sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming, but I like the idea that I can use my mind to feel better about my body.”

Choose Thoughts That Feel Better And Your Emotions Will Follow

Doctor Rick Hanson describes a process called neuroplasticity in his book called ‘Buddha’s Brain’. He says that if you can focus on something that pleases you for just 30 seconds six times a day, you will train your mind to become more positive.

Each time you choose to feel good, either by choosing a thought that feels better or by appreciating something you have right now, you are aligning your emotional energy with your desires. As you do this, you become magnetic to all good feelings, things and experiences.

So even though you think that physical thing you want will finally make you happy, this isn’t true. The easiest way to get what you want is to focus on your emotions and the thoughts that perpetuate those emotions, setting the intention in your mind to feel good no matter what. The rest will naturally follow.
