Dear Universe: Why Can’t I Get What I Want?

‘Why can’t I get what I want?’ you ask yourself. ‘Because you just can’t and that’s all there is to it.’ answers the rest of society. Law of attraction teacher Esther Hicks tells a different story; she reckons there is no limit to what you can have, provided you allow yourself to receive it.

It is the ‘allowing’ that trips most of us up though, because we live in a society that focuses on limitations. We are taught that there are only so many resources in the world and that you have to fight hard to get (and keep) the things you want.

When you want something you are always giving your attention to two subjects; what you want and the absence of it. Most people spend the majority of their time focusing on the ‘absence’ part and therefore, they do not end up getting what they have asked for.

If you fall into the ‘most people’ category, you can do some work to improve what law of attraction experts call your point of attraction, but first you need to know where you’re going wrong. Here are 3 ways you may be pinching yourself off from fulfilling your desires:

ONE: You Don’t Let Yourself Want It

Things that slow down manifesting

Let’s say you would like to have 30 million dollars. If you don’t have anything close to that amount in your bank account it could feel like some unattainable fantasy that you’ll never achieve.

Most people say ‘yeah…right.’, stop right there and never allow themselves to entertain the possibility of having that much money again, because it’s painful to want things we can’t have; we would rather just not think about it at all and be satisfied with mediocrity.

Yet according to the law of attraction, we’re all selling ourselves short. It says that all you have to do is want what you want and let the Universe figure out how it’s going to come to you. Sounds easy, right?

Except that we human beings like to work stuff out; so much so that we think and we think and we think until our brains hurt and then after all that thinking, when we still can’t come up with a tangible way to get that 30 million dollars into the bank, we give up. That’s not leaving it up to the Universe; that’s trying too hard.

On the other hand if you could just be open to the possibility that you don’t have to know how to get that amount of money this red hot minute, you could let yourself feel good about the possibility of having it; and in doing so you are opening your energy up to receive it.

When you feel good about your desires, you are aligned with source energy and you’re on the right track to receiving them. When you feel fearful or angry or doubtful, you are not in alignment and you keep these desires from coming to you.

So feeling good is the most important step to allowing what you want to come to you. Esther and Jerry Hicks have developed a lot of processes that help you feel good and in doing so, stay in alignment with your desires. In fact they have written many books on the subject, so if you haven’t explored them I highly recommend that you do.

TWO: You Say “I Can’t”

When you want something but you say ‘I can’t’, you are offering the strongest resistance possible to having it and you are literally cutting yourself off from your own power.

Just because you haven’t worked out a way to get what you want doesn’t mean you won’t eventually find a way. So instead of saying ‘I can’t possibly have 30 million dollars’, say ‘what if I could have 30 million dollars? What would I spend it on? Wouldn’t it be great if I could live wherever I wanted and do whatever I wanted for the rest of my life?’

When you pivot your thought process in this way you are aligning yourself with your desires and you attract more and more of what you want into your life. A belief is just a thought you keep on thinking; so it makes sense that cleaning up your thoughts also re-aligns you in a way that can only lead you towards more of what you want.

Your beliefs create your reality and if your beliefs are not aligned with who you want to be and what you want to have, changing them is paramount. A qualified hypnotherapist can help you with this process.

THREE: You Complain About Never Getting What You Want

Whatever you think about and focus on will become your reality. If you don’t like your reality stop talking about it, because by doing so you continually bang the drum of ‘what is happening right now’ and therefore you only get more of what is.

If you could do one positive thing to raise your point of attraction it would be to get your head ‘in the clouds’ and start talking about your life the way you want it to be. Your friends will think you’re crazy, but do it anyway because when you focus on what you want you actively draw it to you. Don’t just do it for an hour or a day; do it all day every day.

If you don’t feel comfortable talking about it then you can write about it instead. What will it feel like when you have 30 million dollars? What will you do with it? Who will you help? Create the biggest, baddest fantasy you can think of and milk the good feelings it stirs up within you for all they are worth.

If you have negative friends who like to complain, get some new friends. Do whatever it takes to raise your vibration and align yourself with the things and experiences you want to create.

As you do this you will attract what you want in ways you may never have thought were possible. The next time you ask yourself ‘why can’t I get what I want?’, pay attention to how you’re feeling. In the game of manifesting, feeling good is the only thing that matters.

When you want something and you feel good about it even though it has not yet come into existence, you know you are on the right track.
