Train Your Mind To Combat Anxiety
In the 12 years that I have been practising, many of my clients have asked me how to stop anxiety from ruining their lives, and I always give the same answer: train your mind.
Matthieu Ricard, the happiest man in the world, would agree with me. He’s a Buddhist monk who says that meditation completely changes your brain and makes you worry less and feel more happiness; and he has the brain scans to prove it!
The scans on his brain showed excessive activity in the left pre-frontal cortex, which makes him more inclined towards happiness and less likely to worry. He has trained his brain through daily mindful meditation. Meditation and hypnotherapy for anxiety together are a powerful force in your quest to overcome anxiety.
Worrying Is Over-rated.
So why do you do it? Because that’s just what we do. As human beings we worry about everything – we worry about not having enough money, we worry about our friends and family, and we even worry about worrying!
We especially worry about what other people think. How many times have you said or done things just to improve the way other people see or think of you? Your whole life may revolve around making sure your reputation is intact and that can be exhausting.
Some people get themselves into huge amounts of debt, all in the name of impressing other people. The irony of this is that what other people think about you actually has nothing to do with you.
You Are Not Your Reputation
Your reputation, your image, whatever you want to call it, is about as dependable as a Melbourne weather forecast. This is because it relies on other peoples’ perceptions, which are changing all the time. I could devote my entire life towards making sure you like and approve of me and I’d still be wasting my time.
What you think of me depends entirely on your beliefs, your views and your map of the world. I couldn’t change those even if I tried – therefore I have no control over what you think of me.
If you think your life will be fulfilled only when everybody approves of you, think again. Even if you could get that all sorted, you’d find something else to worry about. The only way around it is to change your mindset.
Change The Way You Think
Instead of trying to control your outside circumstances you’re much better off changing the way you see yourself and the way you see your life.
A qualified hypnotherapist can help you do this by diagnosing the negative beliefs that are causing you to feel anxious and unsure about life and, with your permission, helping you create new beliefs that make you happy.
Hypnotherapy can help you to stop reacting blindly to the brain dump that washes over you when you’re feeling vulnerable. You can change the way you respond to your unwanted negative thoughts and in the process, change your reality.
